Hey,
I want to share what movie opening inspired us when creating our thriller opening.
The first thriller movie opening that inspired us was;
Gone girl (2014)
It inspired us because of the way the music enhanced the scene, as he was stroking her hair, it helped add mystery alongside the voiceover. As he is talking the music is quiet but begins to build up as she turns to look at the camera (which would be her husbands point of view) The voiceover is the husband speaking very negatively towards his wife, He says;
"When I think of my wife I always think of her head. I picture cracking her lovely skull and spooling her brain trying to get answers". This tells the audience that the movie isn't a rom-com but really quite dark and sinister. We enjoyed the way the editors used music to dramatise the opening scene and this is something that inspired us and what we wanted to make sure our soundtrack was like in our opening, which will hopefully come across. The way the husband is speaking compared to what he is saying is a complete contrast. He is speaking calmly but is talking about something very sinister and criminal.
The silence of the lambs
This opening inspired us because it starts with the camera over looking a lake, it then pans down to a woman who then begins running, the cuts get quicker building tension while the music gradually gets bigger the more she runs. The running makes us think as an audience what is she running away from or running towards? Another convention of a thriller is to have the audience in suspense and this opening does just that. The music is a very classical piece, contrasting the scene and the woman running. We want our opening to be simple yet effective and we realise that this opening is simple but effective but manages to pull an audience in and makes them continue watching and curious.
