Our Music/sound effects choice

Hey,

The music was defiantly the hardest thing to be able to match with our thriller. We really wanted to have a piece that was anti climatic at the beginning and then gradually builds up towards the end when we see the two teenagers that have been kidnapped, because the first couple of scenes are of a normal situation we didn't need the intense music at first. It was really hard to find a song that did this and it took many hours looking through songs on our phones and youtube. One lesson me and Amy spent the entire time searching for thriller songs. I found a couple of possibilities but nothing seemed to work or go with our thriller.

Here are some of the possibilities we found when looking at music:
I found this song on youtube:

1. Suspense Thriller cinematic score
- We liked this song at first and until the last couple of days of editing we were going to use it. After listening to it many times we realised that it wasn't climatic enough until the end and we tried to edit the music shorter but it only ended up sounding too edited. After much deliberation we decided as a group that we didn't like the song choice. We decided to continue looking of music.

2. Mafia theme song
- This song Demi found, we added it to the opening but it just wasn't going well with the scene or the editing or the whole story in general. We listened to the song and we generally liked it until we added it to the opening. We wanted to make certain parts of the opening suspenseful and climatic and this music didn't really allow us to do so. We spent a long time listening to the music trying to find sections of the song that would go well with each scene but it just wasn't the right song.

Eventually Amy found the perfect piece of music that we used. This song is called :
Suspenseful cinematicBackground music

It can be found on youtube. It isn't copyrighted so it was the perfect song choice. This song fits many different parts of the opening making it the perfect song to choose. At times the music is slow and not climatic and therefore was perfect. Catherine was able to adjust the music volume and was able to make it fit within the scene without overpowering the talking too much as this can be extremely frustrating when watching a movie and you have to try and ignore the music to hear the dialogue. It doesn't allow the audience to enjoy the movie. So we made sure not to make this mistake. We used this music in many different scene , for example we used it in the barn scene where we see the children, this creates a dramatic atmosphere which is just what we need on this shot. We also added heart beats to the last scene when the camera gets closer to the teenagers, (this represents how they are feeling and hopefully portrays this to the audience). We need to add something that will make the audience sit on the edge of their seat and become curious of the following scenes, which hopefully the music will help create.

They're many sound effects that we used in the opening to enhance and/or dramatise it. For example we enhanced Amy's footsteps when she walks into the kitchen. In the original filming the sound wasn't that loud on her footsteps so Demi added in footsteps over the top. The second is the rain storm when the teenagers are found. We wanted to add an atmosphere of suspense and tension to the upcoming scene. It then continues with heart beats that add to the scene and show how the teenagers are feeling and we hope that it will help the audience feel something; fear, worry or uncertainty.
