Scenes from our thriller that I filmed

Hey,

When filming I was able to have the privilege to film many scenes as I enjoy filming and the whole process of filming and directing. Here are some shot that I was proud of and why I think they are significant and how they help create suspense.

In the filming process I made sure that we filmed each shot at least 3 times so when it came to editing we had more than enough shots to choose from if one of them had gone wrong or not looked as we wanted.

Here is a quote that I knew nd pitched to the group. The black background shows the darkness of the scene and the upcoming story whereas the white writing shows light and presents hope. I suggested this quote for the beginning of the movie to add suspense to the scene and give the audience a preview on what the movie is about. I knew about this quote and pitched it to the group and we all agreed that we liked it, therefore we added it to our thriller opening. The quote is accompanied by heartbeats. This adds tension and builds suspense. The heartbeats can represent how the family and the kidnapped are feeling.

The first scene that I shot was actually the first scene. I decided to change the shot at the last minute and try something new. I discussed my idea with the group and they were all on board on at least trying it out. I filmed the shot in this new way and decided to keep it. I decided to change the scene because If we had shot the scene from across the road we would not have been able to see her emotions which helps portray the story and the mood and atmosphere.

The second shot that I filmed and directed was a over the shoulder shot of Amy's character walking towards the door. This shot is significant because we can see she is going home and from the previous shot we know she has just been somewhere stressful because of her body language and emotions.  Here you can hear the diegetic sounds of her feet, no other music. This creates an eerie atmosphere and develops her characters portrayal.

The next shot I filmed was a low angle shot. We decided to have the scene dark so it could foreshadow the events and story that is yet to com. It creates an uncertnty with the audience and hopefully makes them think and question what is going on. I choose a low angle shot to also foreshadow the mood of the character. She is stressed and feeling low, therefore the use of a dark low angle shot was a perfect fit. The shot is important because it helps add to the atmosphere of the scene this then helps the audience when watching to know

This shot wasn't exactly filmed by me but it was my idea to create. I had an idea that putting the camera in the fridge to see Amy's character reach for the beer would give the audience a different perspective other than looking over her shoulder all the time. It was also something different and I believe it made this scene better as we needed some ranges of shot and I believe that this shot did just that. The miss-en-scene in this scene helps show a family environment, for example the family table and flowers, all suggesting a family environment.
